Blacksmithing Basics with Patrick Quinn
This class teaches the basic elements of blacksmithing. You will learn how to stand at the anvil, hold the hammer, hand-forge tapers, curl over the horn, form small scrolls and right angle bends. This is an essential beginning course that will introduce techniques that can be expanded upon in a multitude of ways.
We supply the well-tooled smithing studio with your own anvil and tooling, material to forge, and an attentive instructor--and you bring the capacity to have a good time in the metal studio. You will leave with the forged pieces you have made in your day at the smithy, and a lot more knowledge about the potential of forging hot iron. If you already have experience at the forge, this is a good workout opportunity to practice your technique, and to pick up tricks and tips from a master smith. Practicing the forms is how you get good, so come back for a day's workout to hone your skills. *Or to register by mail: Send deposit with the name of the workshop and your contact information--name, address, phone number and email address to: Center for Metal Arts, PO Box 30, Chester, NY 10918 Questions?
